Korean Traditional Music Music Information Retrieval Computational Musicology Music AI

I am a Ph.D. student at the Music and Audio Computing Lab (MACLab), advised by Prof. Juhan Nam.

My research applies Music Information Retrieval (MIR) and music AI to Gugak (Korean traditional music), focusing on its unique idioms and expressive characteristics that are often overlooked in conventional analysis.

With over 15 years of experience as a haegeum player, I combine performance-based musical intuition with data-driven analytical methods to investigate what constitutes the "Korean-ness" in our music.
